Iran’s Uraman gains UNESCO World Heritage status

Huraman or Uraman mountainous area located between Iranian provinces of Kurdistan and Kermanshah has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

In the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee, which is being held in China’s Fuzhou from July 16 to 31, the Cultural Landscape of Uraman (also written as Uramanat) was confirmed for inclusion on the prestigious list.

The impressive rural landscape includes houses with spectacular architecture and landscape. It is one of the most beautiful and presentable heritages in the world with a unique rural texture, architecture, lifestyle and agriculture.

As a prominent example of integration of man into nature, the inhabitants integrated themselves into nature through the utilization of sharp slopes in agriculture.

The rural landscape is home to dense and step-like rows of houses in a way that the roof of each house forms the yard of the upper one.

The inclusion of this Iranian heritage on the prestigious list of the UN body could absorb more international tourists.

The latest inclusion marks the 26th Iranian heritage inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The mountainous area becomes the third cultural landscape from Iran, following the inclusion of Bam and Maymand cultural landscapes.

This comes hot on the heels of the Trans-Iranian Railway inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The committee announced on July 25 that the railway, which connects the Caspian Sea in the northeast with the Persian Gulf in the southwest, has been added to the list.

The railway is notable for its scale and the engineering work that was required to overcome steep routes and other difficulties.
